Breast Predictive Factor Update



 

American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) and College of American Pathologists (CAP) produced collaborative guidelines for HER2 and ER/PgR Testing in Breast Cancer in 2007 and 2011 respectively The HER2 Guideline has recently been updated. This course summarizes the content of these guidelines and updates the recommendations for HER2 included in the 2013 publication.

Dr. Elizabeth Hammond is a consulting pathologist with Intermountain Healthcare and professor of pathology and adjunct professor of internal medicine (cardiology) at the University of Utah School of Medicine. She is also a past member of Intermountain’s Board of Trustees. She was recently recognized and presented with two awards presented by the College of American Pathologists (CAP): 1) the CAP Pathology Advancement Award, of which she is the first recipient; and 2) the CAP Excellence in Education Award.


Objectives

After this presentation, participants will be able to:

  • Describe key elements of the ASCO/CAP HER2 and ER/PgR guidelines and contrast their features.
  • Identify the changes in the 2013 HER2 update and illustrate the significance of these changes on testing execution.
