|Tour ARUP Laboratories||Founded in 1984 by University of Utah Department of Pathology faculty, ARUP Laboratories provides laboratory-testing services to clients in all 50 states and to over half of the nation's university teaching hospitals.|
|Location||Located in Salt Lake City, Utah, with over 2,300 employees, ARUP is the largest employer of medical laboratory professionals in Utah, providing a comprehensive clinical and anatomic test menu that includes more than 2,000 tests and test combinations, ranging from routine screening tests to highly esoteric molecular and genetic assays.|
|Parking/Transportation||Encouraging employees to use public transportation or bike to work, ARUP provides convenient on-site bike racks and shower facilities, as well as a free shuttle that runs from the Trax station and University Hospital to ARUP every 20 minutes. Employees who drive to work receive parking permits; free visitor parking is also available in designated parking spaces.|

|Child-Care Facility||ARUP's on-site child-care facility accommodates approximately 70 children, ranging in age from 6 weeks to 5 years old; open Monday through Friday, 6:30 a.m. until 6:00 p.m., the facility has six rooms where children can rest, play, read, and learn. ARUP subsidizes the monthly child-care fee, so parents save a significant amount of money as well as time by using the on-site center.|
|Café||ARUP houses an on-site café called the View, which overlooks the Wasatch mountains and Salt Lake Valley and provides healthy-meal discounts.|
|Education||ARUP offers generous tuition reimbursement for employees and dependents, including medical laboratory sciences (MT, MLT, and MS) and fellowship training programs. |ARUP Blood Services||A component of ARUP Laboratories, ARUP Blood Services is the sole blood provider to the University of Utah Hospitals and Clinics, Huntsman Cancer Institute, Primary Children's Medical Center, and Shriners Hospital for Children.|
|State-of-the-Art Testing Laboratory||With over 140,000 sq ft of laboratory space, ARUP processes 25,000-30,000 specimens per day, 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and is a CLIA- and CAP-certified high-complexity laboratory.

|The LightCycler®||The LightCycler® 480, invented by Dr. Carl Wittwer, one of ARUP's medical directors, is a high throughput gene-quantification and genotyping real-time PCR platform used broadly in clinical diagnostics worldwide.|
|API 5000™||Used in the Mass Spectrometry Lab, the API 5000™ is today's most sensitive triple quadrupole mass spectrometer for small molecule analysis.|
|ETI-Max3000||ETI-Max3000 is a fully automated analyzer that can simultaneously load up to four microplates with separate worklists and process up to seven microplates in continuous loading.|
|TIGRIS®||The TIGRIS® system automates all phases of molecular diagnostics testing, including molecular antigen detection.|
|PATHOS||The Histology Laboratory at the University Hospital houses PATHOS, a fully automated microwave tissue processor that performs over 200 biopsies per hour.|
|Histology||The Histology Laboratory also utilizes the Arcturus™ Microdissection System, which provides flexible, modular laser-capture microdissection.|
|Machine Shop||ARUP’s machine shop makes customized instrumentation used in the laboratories; machines can be modified to fit specific needs, and new instruments are built according to custom specifications.|
|Specimen Transport & Sorting||ARUP is one of the most automated laboratories in the United States, featuring a 1,100-foot transport and sorting system with a capacity of 8,000 specimens per hour, and provides laboratory-testing services to clients in all 50 states and to over half of the nation's university teaching hospitals.

|Specimen Storage||Two automated sorters load finished specimens into storage trays and then into a two-story automated storage and retrieval system (AS/RS) housed in the world's largest clinical-laboratory freezer.|
|Specimen Thawing & Mixing||ARUP houses the world's first automated thawing and mixing workcell, which thaws and mixes frozen specimens on the transport system at a rate of more than 1,000 per hour, thus reducing pre-analytical preparation time. The Motoman thawing and mixing workcell put ARUP at the cutting-edge of automation, improving the overall quality of testing and reducing turnaround time.
